Our brand is named after John Ruskin reflecting our commitment to the values that align with traditional craftsmanship, integrity, and the use of natural materials, which were central to his philosophy.

John Ruskin was a vocal critic of mass production that characterized the 19th century. His concerns grew as factories began to dominate the landscape of production, often at the expense of artistry, craftsmanship, and the environment while leaving people feeling disconnected.

In 1849, John Ruskin penned The Seven Lamps as a passionate call to return to traditional craftsmanship and the beauty of natural materials. Recognising the impact of mass production on art and design, he advocated for a deeper appreciation of handmade, where each piece tells a story and embodies the spirit of its creator.

Just as Ruskin pushed for a revival in his time, we are reimagining those same principles today —offering designs based on timeless values with modern refinement. Our design work celebrates the artistry of our craftsmen and women, ensuring each piece reflects the care, time, and expertise of its creation. We prioritise natural materials that are responsibly sourced in order to offer timeless beauty and lasting quality.

The following Seven Lamps reflected his vision for a more meaningful approach to architecture and design:

Sacrifice: Highlighting the importance of dedication and time invested in craftsmanship.

Truth: Emphasizing honesty in materials and techniques, celebrating the authenticity of natural resources.

Power: Finding strength in simplicity, where thoughtful design speaks for itself.

Beauty: Encouraging timeless aesthetics inspired by nature, rather than fleeting trends.

Life: Infusing each handcrafted piece with vitality, connecting people to the artisans behind them.

Memory: Honoring history and tradition, ensuring that modern designs resonate with the past.

Obedience: Respecting the natural laws of design and craftsmanship, making each piece with intention and care.
